Everything you need to know about the Gentse Feesten cup

What is the Gentse Feesten cup?

The first joint Gentse Feesten Cup is a fact! With pride, the organizers of the Gentse Feesten present a unique cup that can be used at every square and can also be rented for other events.

What does the Gentse Feesten cup look like?

The Gentse Feesten Cup has a neutral design featuring a map and Belgian rivers, and is available in three sizes: 0.25 liters, 0.50 liters, and a 1.5-liter pitcher for those extra thirsty.

How does the Gentse Feesten Cup work?

During the Gentse Feesten, the cups are used at various central squares: Polé Polé, Mardi Gras, Sint-Baafsplein, Korenmarkt, Groentenmarkt, Boomtown, Place Musette, Walter De Buckplein, Vlasmarkt, and Ons Luisterplein. You can exchange them at all squares for a deposit of 1 euro for 25 and 50 cl cups and 5 euros for a pitcher.

What should I do with a different type of cup?

In some squares, other types of cups, such as an Irish Coffee cup or a Duvel cup, are used. You can exchange these for a deposit at those specific locations as well. All exchange points clearly specify which cups are accepted. Bars and restaurants also use their own reusable cups. You should return these to the café or restaurant where you purchased your drink.

Where can I exchange my cups?

Did you just down your drink, or did you enjoy it at your own pace? Either way, time to exchange your cup! At the Gentse Feesten, you'll find clearly marked exchange points. On some squares, you can also exchange the cup at the bar when ordering a new drink. This will be indicated at the bar. On all squares, you can exchange cups everywhere when you order a new drink. Some squares also have separate exchange points where you can only exchange for money, reducing queues at the bars and making service smoother.

How do I find the exchange points or bars?

The exchange points can be found throughout the city. They are easily recognizable thanks to icons, information boards, and signs at the squares.

Can't find them? Ask a passerby or an event staff member for help – you might end up making a new friend!

How long does it take for my deposit to be refunded?

Refunding your deposit involves some behind-the-scenes work. You can expect your deposit to be back in your account within three working days. Perfect timing for making a good deal during the Markt van de Lege Portemonnees (‘empty wallets market’)!

What is the practical benefit of such a cup?

By using a reusable cup, we avoid waste and litter. This keeps the Gentse Feesten enjoyable for everyone - including future generations. The fact that you can exchange the cup at multiple locations is convenient for all who come to celebrate.

How much is my cup worth?

The deposit for the 25 and 50 centiliter cups is 1 euro, and for the 1.5-liter pitcher, it’s 5 euros.

What happens to my cup after I exchange it?

Rest assured: we clean it thoroughly! The organization’s bar staff washes them daily with mobile washing units at the squares themselves. This allows us to reuse them often, reducing the number of cups needed. After the festival, you can even rent the cups for events and parties! We are currently developing a rental system for this.
